Fundamentals of Educational Technology Leadership

EDTC 801-Summer Institute I in Educational Technology Leadership (2 credits) 

This course is the initial intensive summer seminar for incoming doctoral cohort candidates. This is a foundation course which outlines the expectations and practices of the program. It also introduces candidates to the program’s mission of preparing effective leaders for an interdependent world.

  • Apprentice Project-"Cohort 2" Branding

    • Rationale: As a project manager for the Apprentice Project I was able utilize my leadership skills to tap into the strengths of all of my cohort members in order to successfully complete the mission.  

  • Leadership Presentation

    • Rationale: As a school administrator, I wanted to learn more about the Team Leadership Style Model in order to be a more effective school leader.  

  • Professional Growth Plan

    • Rationale: My professional growth plan afforded me with an opportunity for self-reflection to further guide my academic and professional goals. 

  • Digital Portfolio

    • Rationale: Creating a digital portfolio has provided me with the ability to measure my professional growth throughout the course of my doctoral studies at New Jersey City University. 

EDTC 802-Principles of Educational Technology Leadership (3 credits)
This course focuses on concepts and strategies necessary for a leader in a technologically-rich learning environment. Topics include strategic planning, leadership styles, institutional change processes, and policy issues in educational technology.

  • Assessment 1-Adaptive Learning Research Paper

    • Rationale:​ The role of adaptive learning systems is quite fascinating and I wanted to conduct additional research on the topic in order to maximize student achievement.

  • Assessment 2-Technology Use Proposal

    • Rationale​: As part of this project, I created a proof of concept to explore the possiblilities of how adaptive learning systems can adapt to personalized learning styles (i.e. global learners and concrete learners) in order to increase student mastery. 

  • Assessment 3-Leaders in the Field

    • Rationale: Sherry Turkle's work is quite intriguing and I wanted to learn more about how technology is altering  human relationships. 

 

EDTC 804-Global Issues in Educational Technology Leadership (3 credits)

This course will investigate educational technology through a global perspective. The issues covered will include development strategies, diversity, cultural values, and the systemic role educational technology plays in global economic development. The course will focus on a cross-cultural examination of contemporary academic and workplace skills.

  • Assessment 1-Research Paper on Cultural Values and Technology

    • Rationale: The reason I selected this topic was to gain a better understanding of how to utilize technology to promote cultural understanding and diversity in K-12 education. 

  • Assessment 2-Global Issues-A World View

    • Rationale: This project afforded me with an opportunity to investigate the technological challenges in Europe and the impact on education. 

  • Assessment 3- A College-Level Course Integrating Global Issues

    • Rationale: This course provided the foundational framework needed to develop a graduate level course.  The focus of my project was on creating a leadership course for bilingual and multicultural programs.

EDTC 813-Advanced Using Integrated Software Across the Curriculum (3 credits)
This course focuses on technology and learning environments.   Candidates will learn how to apply a variety of technologies in systemic approaches to curriculum design and implementation.  Topics will include accessible curriculum design,  project-based instruction, student use of technology, educator use of technology, and organizational learning.

  • Universal Design Project-"Before and After"

    • Rationale: All of the students at my school are learning a second language. As a result, the focus of my Universal Design for Learning project centered around the implementation of the framework in the World Languages classroom.  

  • Blocks to Robots

    • Rationale: This projected provided me with an opportunity to incorporate the use of augmented reality to bring the curriculum to life.

  • Flip Your Classroom

    • Rationale:​  This project challenged me to create new learning opportunities for my Master's level students at NJCU.  As a result of this course, I created a YouTube channel and posted some of my lessons online.  

  • Systems Thinking

    • Rationale:  As an instructional leader, I welcome opportunities to learn more about learning organizations. Peter Senge's work afforded me with the ability to further explore how organizations function as a system.  

EDTC 815-Administration and Supervision of Technology (3 credits)
This course prepares candidates to assume a leadership role and administrative responsibilities associated with technology facilitators.  An analysis of district-wide and school curriculum needs, state agency mandates and federal imperatives will be conducted.

  • Administration and Supervision

    • This course layed the foundational framework necessary to complete a solid technology plan which included a vision/mission, a needs assessment, funding, professional development and an evaluation plan. 

  • Hiring Three Technology Coordinators

    • Rationale:  There were many benefits to this project.  As educational technology leaders, it is essential to learn about the job description of a technology coordinator and to understand the policies and procedures that need to be implemented.

  • Technology Implementation Plan

    • This project provided the doctoral students with the ability to collaborate as a team in order to develop and execute a thorough technology implementation plan according to state and federal mandates. 

  • Professional Development Experience

    • Rationale: This project was an integral component of the coursework since many schools have adopted learning management systems.  As an administrator is essential to have a clear understanding of how to effectively use a learning management system.
